Time to start!

Time to start!

Hello friend,

Welcome to my very first blog post!

It feels good to finally be able to write this. I was thinking for a very long time about what I wanted to try out next in life. And honestly, there are so many things to see, to do, to experience, and I just didn't know where to start. And while I was thinking and procrastinating for weeks and not taking action, I have now decided that it's enough: I need to start. Somewhere. Somehow. Because if I never start somewhere, life will stay the same. On this Website and through this blog I will be sharing my thoughts, experiences and whatever is up on my mind with you guys. For me, it's like a reflection on what I've learned, and for you, it's something to look forward to and to get inspired from, to learn from or to just read and enjoy the content. It will be epic, I'll guarantee you that.

Let's begin.

Putting your foot down

You probably have it too: This one project you want to start, this one instrument you want to learn, this one assignment you are supposed to do. But the time never seems right. We just don't have "enough time", we are "too stressed" or have "too much going on". On top of that, it's so much more comfortable to just procrastinate. Pulling out your phone and just chill for 2 hours is far more appealing in the short term than going to the gym to sweat your ass off. And so we end up wasting time every day that we could be investing in our projects, hobbies, dreams and our purpose.

“Procrastination is the thief of time.” – Edward Young

Time is not infinite.

You probably have some kind of events that lie in the past that feel like they didn't happen too long ago. I personally still feel like we live in 2020. The first out breach of the coronavirus was 3 years ago. Avengers Endgame was released 4.5 years ago. And even tho it is that far back in the past already, it feels like those events just happened a while ago. It's crazy how fast time goes on. Think about your last day of a specific school, your last day of work, your last trip, your last concert, your last holidays. It's crazy that for a few things we feel so nostalgic, and how fast life goes on. Especially if you intentionally think about how old you are and what you have experienced already. Life is going on, and it's going on FAST.

Reality Check

Let's do a reality check together: Open up your phone and check your screen time from last week (if you don't know how to do that, I'll link a tutorial for Android and IOS. Those Tutorial aren't on my website, so beware of that). If you are like most people and also like me, you will be shocked on how much time you actually waste on your phone. Then, look closely on the apps that you used the most. And if you are like me, you will realize that there is so much time that goes to waste because of social media, Netflix and other time-consuming apps. Time, that we could easily invest into other areas in our life.

"But Kim, I just want to chill and relax a bit". Great. Me too. And a little bit of social media isn't too bad in theory, but in reality you get sucked into it way too quickly. It steals your focus and time. Especially apps like TikTok (very addictive app design in general) or BeReal (time limit to post something that "pressures" you to go on your phone the second you see the message) are great at taking away your attention so fast, it's incredible. Social Media can be a great tool to connect with people, network, get inspired and put yourself out there, but most of us rather consume content then produce something on it, therefore not really getting the most value out of it. And if we are really honest with ourselves, there are way better ways to relax than scrolling on TikTok for the whole evening and even compromising on some important sleep, that would actually let us regenerate energy.

My challenge for you

With the importance of our time in mind, I want to challenge you: For the next 7 days, I want you to not use any Social Media. You are not allowed to open any Social Media app. Disconnecting yourself completely for one week (Side Note: If you use Social Media for work, then you are allowed to do that, but you aren't allowed to scroll through posts and look at other posts. Hold yourself accountable!). Like that, you'll get a lot of free time to fill. Valuable Time. Use it to your advantage. Here are some ideas for you:

  • Listen to music
  • Go out into nature more
  • Journal
  • Read books (E-Reader or audiobooks are also great options)
  • Do something new (If you have no idea: Buy a ukulele and start learning it)
  • Meet up with friends (or call them)
  • Clean up your room (You'll be very happy about it, trust me)
  • Pick up something where you said you don't have enough time for ;)
  • Meditate
  • Hit the gym or do whatever exercise you like
  • Plan your dream life
  • Cook something

When those 7 days are over, I want you to write down how this week went for you in a journal or in a Word document and just reflect on it. Was it easy? Was it hard? Did you have more time? What did you do with it? Did you enjoy the challenge? As an extra step, you could post your experience online, therefore producing a post with value for other people and putting yourself out there. And maybe your post will be an inspiration for someone else to try it out ^^.

You got this!

My Song of the week

Even tho I don't play video games that often any more, I got sucked up in a song from Sonic Frontiers that is so sick and aggressive. Sadly not on Spotify yet, but a perfect song for a workout. Enjoy!

Genre: Rock

Thank you so much for reading today's blog post. I wish you an amazing week!

Much Love,

Kim
